![]() ![]() “FIXED MAGAZINE” - An ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device cannot be removed without disassembly of the firearm action. The Penal Code now classifies the following as an AW: RIFLES: A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following: (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, (B) A thumbhole stock, (C) A folding or telescoping stock, (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher, (E) A flash suppressor, or (F) A forward pistol grip. Applied properly a loctited or JB welded hex head screw can't be readily removed.PREREQUISITE FEATURES OF AN ASSAULT WEAPON (AW) A screw extractor bit can be put into a driver handle and it readily removes a drilled out hex socket head screw. A screw extractor can readily remove a drilled out hex head screw, people do that all the time. Permanent loctite and JB weld can't be readily removed. Removing the cylinder from the revolver is disassembly. I doubt anyone would argue in support that simply swinging out the cylinder on a revolver means disassembly. If pivoting the upper away from the lower is disassembly then releasing the catch on a revolver and pivoting the cylinder out is also disassembly. Damage isn't a measure of degree, gouging, scratching or scarring is damage. Both are sold as and accepted to be permanent bonding agents that ordinarily mean the assembly is damaged or destroyed in order to be removed. Loctite is a permanent solution if the correct type of loctite is used as is JB weld. Then the maglocks which allow the magazine to drop when the upper is pivoted away from the lower would seem not to be compliant. Pivoting the upper from the lower is not disassembly as the upper and lower are still attached. All the drilling out of hex heads, banging into place plates and such make no difference if a tool can be used to remove them without also separating the upper from the lower. ![]() If the rear and front pins must both be operated so as to separate the upper from the lower into two distinct pieces then the maglock would be considered permanent. Then it follows that if the maglock can be removed when the rear pin lets the upper pivot away from but not removed from the lower it is not disassembled.Ĭan the maglock be removed when the upper is only pivoted away from the lower? Then it follows that the maglock can be removed without disassembly and therefore isn't permanent. Not to introduce too many other things but when you open a door it is not disassembled, if you remove the pins and the door is separated from the frame then you can say it was disassembled. "the piston can be disassembled for transport" 1 : to come apart the frame disassembles into sections. (m) “Detachable magazine” means any ammunition feeding device that can be removed readily from the firearm without disassembly of the firearm action or use of a tool."ĭrilling out the hex head on a maglock means nothing IMO a broken screw extractor is as easy to use as a hex wrench, it is designed to remove the screw without disassembling the firearm action.Īs someone else asked or stated, the word "disassembly" must be defined and when common dictionary definitions are used simply removing the rear pin and pivoting the upper away from the lower is not disassembly, the upper is still attached to the lower and the common definition means one part of separated from the other into pieces. ![]() That link has several posts which use the term "partial disassembly" when the word "partial" isn't part of the law:Ĭalifornia Code of Regulations Title 11 Division 5 Chapter 39 Article 2 Section 5471 I'm debating on drilling out the sets crew as instructed on the package. I use Gen 4 w/ kingpin and red loctite on 2 builds. Therefore, your statement about maglocks is invalid. But, like you said "Possible to do" does not equal "he did it". Amiright?įunny thing is, I agree with you! Yeah, is it possible to remove a maglock with a tool? Yep. It is quick and easy to change very many firearms into an illegal configuration, but until you do it you haven't done anything wrong. May I quote you from another thread? You stated: "Possible to do" does not equal "he did it". If you have nothing in this life to lose, then maybe it is the compliance device for you It is no different than a bullet button in that regard, "use a tool". The simple fact is, the mag can be removed with an allen wrench from outside the gun. And the page you refer to makes a ridiculous, vague and constructed claim while helpfully reiterating what a maglock should be, then blatantly ignores the elephant in the room: Absolute BS you are spreading, because DOJ does not approve or endorse any of these compliance devices and DOJ never says it is 100% legal. ![]()
