![]() ![]() This seven-year bracket can be referred to as the Carrera’s “first age”. ![]() In those days, Heuer would buy-in movements (in this case, mostly from Valjoux). Until 1970, all Heuer Carrera chronographs were manually-wound. But it is fair to say that the Heuer Carrera had not one, not two, but three true dawns and three quite distinct identities that, now especially, perform three different functions. Its digestible modern case silhouette is as no-nonsense as the original remit - to create a timepiece that could stand the test of time while tracking it as it elapsed. At its core, the Carrera is a damn solid chronograph. They need to remember what made them relevant in the first place. Things got too fancy, too futuristic, too… fiddly.īrand’s need their anchors. The soul of the collection, however, was, if not lacking, somewhat detached from its origins. Following the sale of the company the Carrera name has never been too far from the lips of TAG Heuer aficionados, nor the brand’s catalog (save a 12-year hiatus). The Carrera was a cornerstone of the Heuer brand and one of former CEO Jack Heuer’s finest achievements. And while the Carrera pulled it off once (in its early days) attempts to pull the same rabbit out of the hat have stumbled in recent years. Messing with a winning formula rarely results in progress. The latest TAG Heuer Carrera Sport chronographs take a refreshingly restrained approach to a frequently toyed-with classic. If you are still musing over your position on the brand, perhaps the latest collection of Carreras will help. You may find yourself in either camp, or you may have yet to decide where your loyalties lie. Others just as ardently extol it as the beginning and the end of the conversation when it comes to luxury sports watches (you know who you are). There are some who believe that the brand lost its way after TAG acquired Heuer in 1985. ![]() TAG Heuer is one of those brands that splits opinion. And that, as far as I’m concerned, amounts to a low-key triumph for a very divisive mainstream brand. Sensibility might not create headlines but it does underline classics. This rash of TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronographs is exactly what I think the family needed - a return to form. The Carrera calibre Heuer 01 chronograph is a symbol of the «avant-garde» TAG Heuer spirit, always looking into the future and exploring possibilities. That green dial really means business… And it’s about time. Finally it is adorned with a sporty black perforated rubber strap and a black titanium carbide coated titanium folding clasp with safety push buttons. Equipped with a scratch-resistant curved sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment the chronograph has a water resistance of 100 meters. With a 43 mm diameter, the case is modular and made of alternate finishings of polished and fine brushed stainless steel. The indexes are hand-applied, polished and fine brushed, with white luminescent markers and a touch of red. The movement is the TAG Heuer calibre Heuer 01 which is the “in-house” automatic chronograph movement of the house. The case is no longer the single piece traditionally used by TAG Heuer, but modular with 12 different components increasing the future creative possibilities on this collection. In 2016, the Carrera calibre Heuer 01 chronograph comes with a plain black dial, enhancing the visibility of each of the 3 counters. A manufacture chronograph movement, named «01» after first TAG Heuer founder Edouard Heuer and because it represents the markedly horological development of the calibre 1887, on which the new Carrera collection will be designed. With a modular case, an alliance of new materials, the Carrera calibre Heuer 01 fits perfectly the « avant-garde » spirit of TAG Heuer.īorn in 1963 from the imagination of Jack Heuer, the Carrera collection was inspired by the legendary “Carrera Panamericana Mexico road race.” In 2015, Carrera comes back with a new case, new architecture, new conception and new caliber. Created, designed, hand-crafted and assembled in TAG Heuer’s workshops in la Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, TAG Heuer presents its manufacture movement in the new Carrera calibre Heuer 01 chronograph. ![]()

While some sunscreen companies monkey around with their ingredients, our Bare Republic formulas adhere to a strict “no” list, which excludes over 1400 questionable ingredients restricted in the European Union. We’re also firm believers that sun care shouldn’t compromise our health or the environment, and that what we put in our products is just as important as what we leave out. Here in our hometown of San Diego-where sunny skies are the norm-we learned early that protecting ourselves from the sun was key to outdoor adventuring. In fact, our whole goal in starting Bare Republic was to become the top choice in clean sun protection. The short answer is: yes! The Bare Republic sunscreens tested by Valisure were confirmed not to contain benzene. Are Bare Republic sunscreens benzene free? To be clear: benzene isn’t an ingredient in any of the sunscreens tested (or any sunscreens at all, for that matter)-rather, it’s a byproduct of the manufacturing process that’s often detectable in raw materials derived from petrochemicals and petroleum, and can be found in trace amounts in some synthetic fragrances. (Take a peek at the full list of Valisure’s benzene-positive sunscreens here. The catalyst for this news was a study by Valisure, an independent lab and pharmacy, that found benzene in nearly a third of sunscreens tested … many of which are probably sitting on our bathroom shelves as we speak. Benzene Brouhaha-What’s happening with sunscreen right now? Before we all throw in the proverbial towel and dash into the waves without any protection at all (a very bad idea), we wanted to shed some ‘light’ on benzene in sunscreens, sunscreen safety in general, and how Bare Republic approaches sunscreen ingredient safety. While we’re very happy to report that our Bare Republic products were found to NOT contain benzene, we know that this type of news-combined with J&J’s recall of some Neutrogena and Aveeno sunscreens due to benzene traces-can cast a cloud over sunny summer skies. If you live anywhere the sun reaches, you’ve likely heard that an independent lab recently found benzene-a known carcinogen-in many household-name sunscreens. ![]() |
